Status: Full-time, exempt | One-Year Term Position Salary $60-65,000 with Benefits

THE PITCH

Are you a social media strategist and digital organizer who's built real audiences for causes you believe in? Do you know the difference between a BlueSky thread and a Facebook group -  and why it matters for a civic engagement campaign? Can you go live from a rally, cut a TikTok on the way back, and set up an email re-engagement sequence before end of day?

North Carolina Asian Americans Together and its sister organization, NCAAT in Action, are looking for someone who can grow our audience, move them to action, and do it with creativity, cultural fluency, and strategic precision. If you want a creative home doing mission-driven work with solid pay, good benefits, and real organizational infrastructure behind you -  read on.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATIONS

North Carolina Asian Americans Together (NCAAT) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization committed to equity and justice for all, building community among Asian American communities and allies in North Carolina through civic engagement, leadership development, grassroots mobilization, and political participation.

NCAAT in Action (NCAATIA) is NCAAT's 501(c)(4) sister organization, building political power among Asian Americans and allies through voter education, progressive advocacy, and leadership development.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a hands-on, high-visibility role at the intersection of digital storytelling and grassroots organizing. You'll own NCAAT and NCAATIA's day-to-day social media presence -  from content strategy and production to platform management, community engagement, and paid digital campaigns 0  while also supporting web content, email, and online action tools.

You'll report to the Sr. Director of Communications with a technical line to the Digital Communications Coordinator, and collaborate closely with our Membership and Programs teams to amplify the work happening on the ground.

This is not a post-and-ghost role. We're looking for someone who can build genuine relationships online, convert followers into members and activists, and make our audiences feel seen - especially AAPI communities who are too often invisible in mainstream civic and political life.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Social Media & Community Management

  • Own the editorial calendar and day-to-day publishing across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, BlueSky, Threads, and emerging platforms
  • Build and moderate closed digital communities (Discord, WhatsApp, WeChat, KakaoTalk, Reddit) where appropriate for audience segments
  • Engage directly with comments, messages, and community members to build trust and deepen relationships -  not just broadcast
  • Provide real-time digital support at events: going live, capturing field content, amplifying moments as they happen

Content Creation

  • Working with a visual storyteller who heads film content, this strategist will produce original content across formats: short-form video (Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts), graphics, long-form copy, and carousels
  • Develop messaging guidance and creative briefs for outreach to diverse AAPI audiences -  including youth, women, seniors, and underrepresented communities
  • Lead rapid-response content during elections, legislative moments, and civic emergencies
  • Collaborate on paid digital ad strategy, execution, and performance optimization (Meta Ads, TikTok Ads)

Digital Organizing & Growth

  • Develop and execute strategies to grow NCAAT's activist, volunteer, and membership base online
  • Create pathways to move audiences off-platform and into membership, volunteer pipelines, and civic action
  • Build and deploy email sequences and online action forms using the organization's CRM (e.g., ActionNetwork, EveryAction, or similar)
  • Support website content publishing and updates

Analytics & Optimization

  • Track performance using platform analytics, Google Analytics, and reporting tools
  • Share regular performance observations with the Communications team
  • Adjust content strategies based on data, audience feedback, and program goals

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Required

  • Demonstrated experience creating social media content for a mission-driven organization, advocacy campaign, or social justice cause - with a portfolio/ samples you can show and metrics
  • Graphic design proficiency in Canva or Adobe Creative Suite. Respond to staff requests, including rapid response
  • Fluency across major platforms: Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, BlueSky, Threads), LinkedIn
  • Experience running paid social campaigns (Meta Ads, TikTok Ads) and measuring ROI
  • Familiarity with scheduling, listening, and analytics tools (Later, Buffer, Sprout Social, or native platform tools)
  • Experience with email marketing or CRM platforms (ActionNetwork, EveryAction, Mailchimp, or similar)
  • Strong copywriting instincts and knowledge of content algorithm; you can write for the scroll and the share
  • Ability to work flexible hours during campaigns, elections, and rapid-response moments

Preferred

  • Experience with digital organizing - both content creation and  conversion: moving online audiences into offline action, membership, or sustained engagement
  • Background in AAPI communities, racial justice, civic engagement, or progressive political advocacy
  • Proficiency in an Asian language (Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Korean, Tagalog, Hindi, etc.)
  • Experience building and managing closed online communities (Discord servers, WhatsApp groups, etc.)
  • Familiarity with the creator economy, influencer outreach, and community partnership strategies
  • Knowledge of digital accessibility best practices: captions, alt text, screen reader-compatible design
  • Short-form video production and editing experience (CapCut, Adobe Premiere Rush, or equivalent)

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE IN YEAR ONE

We want to be upfront about what we're hoping you'll help us achieve:

  • Measurable, sustained growth in followers, reach, and engagement across priority platforms
  • Increased conversion of social audiences to email list subscribers, members, or volunteers
  • Consistent, high-quality content output that reflects NCAAT's voice and authentically serves our communities
  • A working rapid-response system for elections, advocacy campaigns, and civic emergencies
  • At least one new digital community or audience segment identified and cultivated
  • Paid ad campaigns with clear ROI tied to organizational goals

Term: This is a one-year contract position. Continued employment beyond the initial term depends on funding availability and organizational needs and is not guaranteed. We are committed to transparency about this from the start — and to supporting your professional development throughout your time with us. Many NCAAT staff have grown with the organization beyond their initial term.

Benefits: Full-time employees receive health, dental, and vision insurance; paid vacation and wellness time; optional 401(k); flextime and hybrid work flexibility; and a yearly professional development stipend that may be used for Asian language courses or other training.
